Halloween Will Pack Your Mat. Then Most Schools Blow It.

You run the Halloween event. The mat is packed. Twenty kids in costumes throwing kicks, laughing, having the best night of their week. Parents are smiling in the lobby. It feels like a win.

Two weeks later you count the new students.

    Zero.

The event was a party. It was not a pipeline. And the gap between those two things is where most schools lose the whole fall.

Here is the part nobody teaches. Filling the mat on Halloween is the easy half. Turning a costumed one-night kid into an enrolled student is the half that pays your rent. Let's go.

Why a great event enrolls nobody

A fun night is a memory. It is not a decision.

The parent watching their kid punch a pad is thinking "this is cute." That feeling is real, and it is gone by the time they reach the car. Nobody signs a contract from the parking lot.

If you do not hand them the next step that night, the moment evaporates. Monday comes. Soccer signups are due. The costume is in a drawer and so are you.

The event does not convert. The bridge off the event converts. And you have to build it before the first costume walks in.

Fill it with the right piece first

Before you convert anyone, you have to get the right families through the door. That is a mail problem and a handout problem at the same time.

The move that solves both is one Halloween card that works two ways. You mail it to the neighborhoods around your school, and you hand a stack to every current student to give their friends. Cold households and warm referrals off a single design.

Our Kick or Treat Halloween card is built for exactly this - a "9 out of 10 dentists recommend martial arts over candy" hook on the front, your offer on the back, sized to drop in a mailbox or a kid's hand.

Three ways to get it out:

    • Mail it to the routes around your school so cold families see the event
    • Hand every current student five cards to give friends at school
    • Stack them at the front desk for every parent already walking in

A referred kid and a mailed household are two different temperatures. Hit both.

The bridge: what every family leaves holding

Here is the rule. Nobody leaves your Halloween event empty-handed, and nobody leaves with a "call us."

Every kid walks out holding a trial pass with a date already written on it. Not a flyer. A specific next visit. A trial pass turns a vague good feeling into a thing on the calendar, and passes start at $97 for 1,000, so this costs you pennies per family.

While the kid is still on the mat, get the parent's name and number on a clipboard. That list is the whole reason the night existed. No list, no follow-up, no students.

    Your conversion clock

The event is the start line, not the finish. Count forward from it:

    • Event night - every family leaves with a trial pass and a booked date
    • Within 48 hours - text each parent a photo of their kid on your mat plus the trial date
    • Within 7 days - get that kid into a real class while the costume night is still warm

Speed is the whole thing. The kid who comes back inside a week remembers how it felt. The kid you chase in December forgot you in November.

After that first class, you do the part you already do well - the intro program, the first belt, the honest talk with the parent about what real training looks like. But none of it happens if the bridge in week one is missing.

If you would rather not build it

You can design and mail all of this yourself. Nothing here needs an agency.

If you do not want to touch the design, the routes, or the post office, EDDM 360 is our done-for-you local growth campaign. We handle the card, the neighborhoods, the printing, and the drops, so you can run the event and work the mat while the mailbox does its job.

The school across town will throw a Halloween party too. It will be fun. It will enroll nobody.

Fill the mat. Then build the bridge off it.

The costumes come off November first. The students don't have to.
