  • Your Ads Are Bidding Against Black Friday. Your Mailbox Isn't.

    ninja and dad getting mail

Black Friday is coming. Every store in America is about to dump its budget into the same feed your parents scroll.

And you're about to boost a holiday post into it.

Real Talk - that boost isn't competing with the karate school across town. It's competing with every retailer, every toy brand, every "50% off ends tonight" ad on the planet. Same parents. Same auction. Their budget is bigger than your building.

That's the Q4 feed. A bidding war you never signed up for.

The mailbox doesn't run an auction.

How the feed actually works in November

Social ads are sold in an auction. When more advertisers want the same audience, the price to reach that audience goes up. From Black Friday through Christmas, everybody wants the same audience - parents with a credit card already out.

So you pay more to show up less. And when you do show up, you're one thumb-flick between a toy ad and a flight deal.

Then there's the targeting. You tell the platform "parents within five miles." The algorithm guesses who that is. Some of them are. A lot of them aren't. Some were just driving through.

    Digital guesses. Direct mail arrives.

Why the mailbox wins this time of year

A feed has hundreds of ads in it. A mailbox has a short stack. Yes, December mail picks up - holiday cards, catalogs. It's still a handful of pieces, and yours is the one from a place they drive past every day.

And they touch it. They pick it up, carry it inside, set it on the counter. A feed ad gets a quarter second. A card gets a walk to the kitchen. Sometimes a spot on the fridge.

    • You pick the households - by route, not by an algorithm's guess.
    • Nobody can scroll past it or hit "skip ad" on it.
    • Your card price doesn't jump because Black Friday showed up.

Sit on that last one. There's no auction at the post office. The feed gets more expensive the second the whole country starts shopping. Your mailer doesn't.

The families you actually want live on real streets

Here's what a school owner needs in Q4. Not likes. Not reach across the county. Families within driving distance who are about to make a January decision about their kid.

Those families aren't a "lookalike audience." They live on specific streets around your school. With Every Door Direct Mail, you choose the carrier routes and every home on them gets the card - the neighborhoods that pass your sign on the way to school.

    That's not a guess. That's a map.

Don't kill your ads. Give them a job they can do.

This isn't "digital is dead." It isn't. It's just the wrong tool to lead with in December.

Let mail carry the cold neighborhood - the households that have never heard of you. Let your ads do the smaller job they're good at - showing up again for people who already know your name.

    • Mail: every home on the routes around your school.
    • Ads: retarget people who visited your site or follow your page.
    • Same colors, same offer, same face on both.

The card makes the introduction. The ad says hello again. Now you're the place they keep seeing - and that's the whole game in local marketing. Not one clever ad. Presence.

    The Q4 mailbox clock

If you're going to own the mailbox this season, the clock is real. Printing, prep, and postal delivery all take time, and the holiday break doesn't move for anybody.

    • This week: pick your routes and your holiday design.
    • When you order, check turnaround and work backward from your landing date.
    • Land it before families scatter for the holiday break.

Get there late and your card lands in an empty house... or under a pile of wrapping paper.

Land it early and you're the local name sitting on the counter when parents start talking about what the kids are doing in January.

    Make your move

Our Holiday Season EDDM cards are oversized 6.5 x 12 cards built for exactly this window - big enough to stand out in a December stack, starting at $537 for 1,000 homes.

Want the routes picked, the card designed, and the drops handled while you teach? Start with a free route scan on EDDM 360. We'll show you which neighborhoods around your school to own this season.

Everybody else is fighting for a quarter second in the feed.

    You get the kitchen counter.

    Take it.
