How Martial Art School Owners Can Smash Through Procrastination. - Dojo Muscle

This is the ultimate 5-minute Ninja Nerd Trick to crush your to do list.

One of the biggest stresses in my professional life has always been battling procrastination.

I'm going to show you right now how I beat it.

Procrastination.

One of the biggest worst most vile foes of entrepreneurs globally.

Do you know why we do it? I can't tell you why you do it but from studies I have seen - it goes something like this (I find this very true in my own life)

  1. Know you need to do something.
  2. Know you should do it fast and early so you have more time to refine it.
  3. Know you must do this thing to grow your life / biz whatever
  4. Know how to do it already
  5. Know when it needs to get done

But. You don't.

Day 1, and 2 goes by and you haven't done the thing you need to do, instead you probably did everything but it, you decided to do dishes, to think about it some more, _ p.s. you hate doing dishes, but you'd rather do dishes overdoing this big thing you need to do that's going to grow your life. Dishes?? Really. How about organizing that junk drawer, all of a sudden.

Yep, this is what humans do.

You know why?

Because the smarter and more creative you are which is a blessing, (which is most of you reading this) comes with a negative feedback loop in the form of you and I can create some crazy stopping you in your tracks stories - the more you can imagine the more you have a propensity to procrastinate.

Massive Trick

SO the trick is, start early and start fast. When I started implementing this thing really took off. Start early to start fast.

In investing, start early start fast. For Maximum wealth.

In fighting, the person who gets his shots off first has a good shot to win if they connect and do damage.

In BJJ if you are attacking the person is defending, start fast to work to get to a good solid dominant position.

So here is what I do now, I have a new project, I go right to paper and pen, no CPU, OLDSKOOLZ, Pen and paper. (Not pencil - you can erase pencil - just pen).

When using a pen in art you have to plan your strokes better because you can't erase. WE want that embedded in our thoughts doing this exercise. Just get it out.

Immediately think of the task you need to do. Think about it from all angles for 3 minutes.

Only 3 minutes.

Don't push thoughts if you stray, stray, it's ok your mind is working stuff out.

Now. Take the pen, and immediately the first thing that comes to mind.

1 sentence - Outline the problem you are solving with whatever you are doing.

Now. Next sentence - outline how you are solving it.

Now - outline the 5 things you have to do to get that solved. (These should be bullets. )

Then that's IT. Close the book.

Go have something to eat, coffee or a beer. You just started the project and got the hard work done already.

The power in this is that you have not put your brain PAST the hump, past the hard part (which is starting) now you just did the heavy lifting (the deciding phase) now you just have to do.

If you do this you crush your procrastination you actually trick your brain into saying ok I am going to spend no more than 5 minutes on this and it's going to be the spark that lights the fuse for later.

Here is an example:

I have to do a trailer project for a NFL training center.

Sentence 1: How do we create a trailer that shows the power, the facility and history of the center?

Sentence 2: Create a trailer that shows fan footage, content from phones, game day footage, and production footage, over intense music that captures that LETS GO GET IT feeling.

Bullet List:

  1. Sort past reels for production footage
  2. Ask the client for game day/ training footage
  3. Review past highlight reels
  4. Plan and shoot production shoot with RED cam
  5. Source music for the trailer

Now go and try it for yourself.

This training was created for our free Facebook group (you can join the group here). But I thought it was so good I had to share it with the world.

Every year I compile a list of whats working and what isn't on Facebook (where I promote mainly) and I print it out and keep it handy.
